GR-311 - MODULATOR ESP - SHADOW OF POSEIDON

When i listend to this music I really wanted to put this on a CD. I am sure and I hope that many will agree. A great track that is so good that you will listen over over again. A stellar performance of Jez Creek who under the name of Modulator ESP makes a very wide range of EM. This is pure Berlin delight in the best sense of the word.
Recorded live for Adventures In Sound Episode 309 on Monday 20th July 2020
Using OP-1, ContinuuMini, iPads (running Monnix, Photonoise, Poseidon, Waveshaper), blackbox, Vector, Tetra, mini KP, DD-20 & MS-70CDR

GR-312 - Tronestam, Johan - Cosmic Steps

Cosmic Steps moves in exactly the same area as the previous album Next Step. Next Step was inspired by the idea of colonizing planets and moons in the Solar System. Cosmic Steps takes us one step further through the concept of interstellar spaceflight. Travelling to other star systems and probably discovering planets that are beneficial to humans is probably still a long way off. Johann Sebastian Bach who is one of my favorite composers died over 270 years ago. Maybe that is the time it takes until we can travel to other stars with the same ease as we put a rover on Mars. But one day, our future civilization will wave to its pioneers who embark on an unbelievably long journey through interstellar space - Fantastic achievements and truly Cosmic steps.

Cosmic Steps is also a concluding album of previous interpretations of the depths of space and man’s dream of colonization.

Cosmic steps was created in studio TeamQuasar on Åland during spring of 2020 to February 2021. The album contains 8 tracks which is about 80 minutes of music. I hope this album provides a musically positive experience and a longing for what is impossible today but probably made possible tomorrow.

Jean Michel Jarre - Amazonia
http://www.groove.nl/index3.html

Available as CD with 12PG. BOOKLET / INCL. BINAURAL AUDIO DOWNLOAD CODE.
And as Vinyl (2piece set: INCL. BINAURAL AUDIO DOWNLOAD CODE.

I wanted to avoid the ethnomusicological approach, or creating background music. So I conceived a sort of toolbox containing musical elements - orchestral and electronic - intended to recreate or evoke the timbre of natural sounds, to which I added sounds from the environment, and finally ethnic sources (voices, songs, and instruments) from the sound archives of the Ethnography Museum of Geneva (MEG). I approached the Amazon with respect, in a poetic and impressionistic way. I chose the vocal and sound elements in their evocative dimension, rather than trying to be faithful to a particular ethnic group. It seemed interesting to me to fantasise the forest. It carries with it a powerful imagination; for both Westerners and Amerindians. This music also evokes a form of nomadism, as if sounds appear and disappear during a migration. It was necessary to go back to the principles of orchestration of the sounds of nature, to work from sounds which follow one another randomly, but which can compose a harmony or a dissonance. And as in any symphony, the work has moments of clarity or tension.

David Wright - Lost Cologny
http://www.groove.nl/index3.html
This unusual project presents an enhanced CD containing 68 minutes of new David Wright music plus the Matt Howarth sci-fi novella ‘The Lost Colony’.

David Wright’s unique musical canvas is perfect for the expressive brush strokes needed to help capture, in our minds eye, the journey so vividly presented by Matt Howarth enthralling sci-fi novella ‘The Lost Colony’. Of course, the adventure on the desert world is in itself expertly crafted by Matt, so the music by David is more a musical interpretation, rather than a soundtrack. We’re confident you will enjoy both.

“A colony ship landed on their target world to find it is not what they were led to expect. Life is a harsh struggle, a seemingly losing battle against the local environment. When a glimmer of salvation arises, the colonists must overcome fatalism and fight to support hope of survival”.

Otarion - No Time was Lost
http://www.groove.nl/index3.html
My music is about the story of the prophet Jonah. It is one of the short stories in the Bible. He resisted God's instruction. This first album Prayer from the Deep was the first part of my project and ends where Jonah came ashore. This album, "No Time was lost", tells the second part of this story.
I experienced some parallels in my life. So I was able to experience God's grace through Jesus Christ.
Many thanks to Marcus Hildebrandt for creating the cover images and to Bernd Scholl for the artwork and audio mastering.

Simply enjoy Rainer “Otarion” Klein

REVIEWS
27358 Tonal Assembly - No Solid Ground

Winds coming from afar, the chirping of forest birds and thunder are among the sound elements that cling to a horizontal sway in order to bring From Afar to our ears. Some two minutes later, the rhythm opens with a rubbery effect in an organic line of the sequencer. Another line, with a more melodious than rhythmic ascendant, invites itself with a zigzag effect. This line goes back and forth in circular mode and my ears have the impression that another line of the sequencer is infiltrating this staggering gait, thus creating a delicate strobe effect. And when all these sequences converge in a point of saturation, where even a few starts to dribble, Dr. Taede A. Smedes layers a first electronic chorus composed of ethereal voices yielding the quiet of the moment to a synth and his numerous solos. The second part of From Afar is opaquer, in the sense that Tonal Assembly adds a bass line to support the rhythmic flow and solos of a synth, one of w hich escapes to accompany with a melodious air the last rhythmic step of a solitary sequencer line. I couldn't wait to hear what Tonal Assembly's next album would be made of. Let's say that the last project of Dr. Taede A. Smedes was a very melodious at the point to eat the eardrums but as peaceful as a gentle musical breeze. I had expressed the wish that the doctor could continue on the tracks of Lost And Found In Imaginary Landscapes. This is exactly what NO SOLID GROUND is made of. This very beautiful album of EM is conceived with a beautiful tone of the sequencer which never hesitates to structure rhythms whose complexity lies in the choice of tones. These rhythms are progressive with good lines of melodies attached to them so as to capture our interest as they always seek to progress. The synths are as dominant as the sequencer with solos and melodic lines whistled in storms of tones stimulated by Dr. Smedes' intelligent writing.

Rendez-Vous At Proxima-B pulls itself out pa infully from the tonal swamp of its overture with a barely formed sequencer line. Staggering to offer an increasingly convincing approach, it becomes the precursor of a solid electronic rock whose essences of Tangerine Dream are lost in the voluptuousness of the synth solos, but not in its excellent melodious vision. Simple and efficient! More difficult to tame, Floating belongs to the category of rhythms structured by a sequencer in mode creation. Emerging after 100 seconds of interstellar mists, the sequencer skips walking with resonant effects fixing to its outline. The synth takes hold of the moment by embracing this vibrating rhythm of good twisted solos which wrap around this structure which has become more vertical. The echo effect in the solos fills the background, as does this short Asian melody which gives way to a rich mellotron. Hypnotic, the leaping rhythm continues its way, encountering the same elements, except for the effects of a powerful industrial alarm synth cap t ured in a large reverberating trickle a little after the 6th minute. Either in the heart of this oriental melody which has taken over the linear and leaping rhythm. Hushed explosions, industrial rustles and drops of sound introduce us to Winter in Bochum. The air is very solemn with the presence of bugles sounding like synths, while behind the droplets of sound project a first rhythmic vision. It's rather to a carousel style that we owe a hypnotic rhythmic presence where it always rains beautiful synth solos having a touch to give us chills, to repress a tear in this title which exudes an intense dramatic vision. The sequencer stumbles around the 5th minute, destabilizing the rhythm which abandons its circular rotations to undertake its Berlin School vision, its ascending vision in a mass of mist which leads us to the dark harmonies of church bells.
December offers us a beautiful lunar ballad starting with a bed of ascending arpeggios scrolling at a surreal speed for a ballad. T he tone of the arpeggios and that of the percussions/pulsations is nevertheless without appeal. The snaps of fingers echo in the whitish decor where the notes of a celestial harp end up flowing over the too firm body of this ballad. Quietly December picks up anything that falls, including jingling blows on an anvil and clashing wooden shoes. The flow then becomes a spiral shape with staccato strokes that sniff a n air of dance. Except that the music returns to its starting point with a guitar which disperses its few notes well in a surge of repetitions where these elements always sing, trapped in the grace of this ballad which has become a spiral. Can we smell an air of dance? Yanhuo! delivers it to us with a rhythm sculpted in the influences of Moonbooter for ballads of cosmic dance music and of Jean-Michel Jarre at the level of cosmic elements as sometimes rhythmic, like electronic clapping of hands and synth dying on a roaring bass line. There is energy per square inch here! Her e and in Thunderstruck, the title I love the most in NO SOLID GROUND. The intro takes place in the torments of thunders which are pierced by plaintive solos of a synth in mode guitar. If the sequences swirl behind the scenes, it's rather a very beautiful astral chant that lifts the hairs on our arms while it rains and thunders outside. The rhythm activates just before entering the 4th minute. In an upward speed being motionless, it swirls unceasingly around the pulsations of bass sequences. The synth solos play with chirping effects as the mist solidifies its orchestral notion. The crescendo well installed, the electronic drums reverse the steam with a savage attack just before the 7th minute. Elaborating rhythmic textures molded in the good moments of rock, I think of The Who here, the rhythm follows a tangent while unrolling a spasmodic texture which grows bigger with each clap of thunder. The next 5 minutes are frenzied. Between the magnetizing playing of the sequencer and this f u ry renewed by percussions and meteorological explosions, the jerky and finely nuanced melodic vision remains the most accompanying of a title that I never tire of listening to. Direction iPod, section more beautiful titles in EM! Waking Up begins with crackles of wood tortured by flames and a strange noise, like a crude imitation of chirping between giant insects. Unexpected is therefore this piano which blows us a beautiful acoustic melody on organic ashes. One would think we were in the sweets of Meditation No.1 when a spiral movement of the sequencer disarticulates its line in spasmodic filament, bringing this piano an easy-listening structure to a rhythm knotted in the tangle of rhythmic lines in what becomes a nice electronic ballad in a great album that we listen to because it's beautiful.
A very beautiful album that this NO SOLID GROUND is! Everything here is conceived so that each note of the keyboard, each breath of the synth and each key of the sequencer go into each o ther as if it were the most natural thing in this musical Eden that this Dr. who was a complete stranger just before Lost And Found In Imaginary Landscapes in 2019. Admit that it is out of the ordinary ...

66232 Son of Ohm - Wandering Monk

A squall of wooshh raises Galactic Domes to our ears. A series of chords dance there a cha-cha-cha out of tune, but not enough so that we do not make this link, on a series of minimalist riffs of a guitar transformed into a metronome. Synth solos dance on this binary rhythm which discreetly nuances its approach just enough to be noticed with hesitation. Constantly playing with the imbalance of his rhythmic framework, Leonardo Wijma grafts an electronic rhythm sounding like clogs which click while jumping. My ears are captivated by this fight between the softness and the morphic violence of this rhythm literally designed to receive brilliant flashes from its author. Flashes like solos with shaded tones that whirl between these analog electronic noises that fed Klaus Schulze's bats. We also hear a tape-delay as well as solos of a guitarist crisscrossing the deserted roads on his horse-drawn cart. In short, a whole monument of tranquility alway s on the verge of imploding. Ahhh… How good it feels to reconnect with the music of Son of Ohm, this brilliant Dutch guitarist divided between analog EM and alternative Krautrock that he likes to make us hear with his other Astral Son project. And the flavors of these two projects encroaching on one or the other, here we have a very refined EM created around 4 titles with almost identical magnetizing textures on an album called WANDERING MONK. This is how Orange and Blue offers a similar structure, just a little more lively, with chords that come and go in a line dance choreography. A twin line is inserted but with a fluty tone and finally, percussions a little on the same beat complete this other minimalist structure conceived with more velocity than Galactic Domes. The fights between synth and mellotron are quite divine until a fascinating cackle pervades the moods a little before the 5th minute. I also hear the vibrations of very discreet gongs on this completely hallucinating fl o ating structure.

Another gust of wind but completely different result with The Vault. The title is built around another series of chords, 3 here, which come and go, like these videos of advancing cats recoil forever. The synth sound is very psychedelic with its Iraqi tinte that sway between these Farfisa chords. The guitar riffs replace the first dominant chords, giving this invisible impetus which blows with more velocity on this enigmatic air since it is now dominated by a prismatic song undulating like a flame in the belly on fire of a belly dancer. The pace slows down with a final that has become rhythmless being attracted by the spectral side of The Vault. Longer title of WANDERING MONK, Soft Mountains also embraces the floating textures of the first three titles, but with a vision of ether in its reverberating winds like the shadow of its mirror. Everything is slow here. The ascent begins with a sinuous line like this snake whose forked tongue spits the venom of the reverb eration waves. Keyboard chords play there with morphic slowness, wandering in this silvering universe where even the wooshh and wiishh appear as poor children. Effects only cast in these synths from a similar period filter through this aspiration without rhythmic aspiration. Obsessed as we are by these organ chords à la Ray Manzarek, we hardly notice this evolution in the texture of the undulating lines which doubled and became tightly woven in the soundscapes of Soft Mountains. The incessant upward movement becomes the arena of this organ prayer as well as its solos and those of the synth which are interrupted by sound effects from different sources, giving this aspect of Californian psychedelic music from the 70's. The organ and/or the electric piano is the main attraction of this title whose slow evolution is activated mainly at the level of the counter which, around 12 minutes, suggests a kind of musical stuttering which will be lost in the oblong sinuosities of the synth.

A resolutely quiet album with 4 ambient tracks revolving around the same core, Son of Ohm's WANDERING MONK nonetheless remains a good album where it's quite possible to meditate. The music and its textures have airs of patchoulis marinated in innocence with a slight opening for 70's psychedelia.
