Hi All

New on Groove!!.

GR-293 - Teardrops - Robert Marselje
http://www.groove.nl/index3.html

A short autobiography by Robert himself -
"Music has always been an important part of my life. Starting with an
Organ standing at my parents house by playing melodies that I heard on
the radio. I started to create my own music when I got my first
synthesizer in 1985. In time when more devices entered my room I
started to play music with some friends of mine. The first opportunity
to compose music for others came from a company in Almere. It was the
first time for me to compose music on this scale, and for the company
the first time to work with a musician.

In 1992 a new era of music started for me. I worked together for and
with other musicians on several dance projects. I also worked with a
singer and we wrote several pop songs. In 1993 I published my first CD:
"The Force of Music" at the label Audio Works.
My second album "Waves In The Sky" (1994) was published Late 1994
I joined the symphonic rock band Salisbury as a keyboard player. This
way I could develop myself more into a live performer. The band broke
up shortly after we recorded our demo tape "The Next". When I played
the fantastic game Marathon (Bungie) I came with the idea to record a
concept CD, a CD with a story behind it. All the tracks on the CD are
a part of the story. This Blue Team CD was released in 1996 by Groove Unlimited.
Shortly after the release they organized a concert at "de Landing" (eindhoven)
where I could perform my music. And now 24 years later here is "Teardrops "
A new musical story. Enjoy.

LAST COPIES!!
ARC (IAN BODDY/MARK SHREEVE) - FRACTURE
(2002-DUO'S 4TH CD TOGETHER-NOW DELETED!)
http://www.groove.nl/index3.html

Ian Boddy & Mark Shreeve have been at the center of the UK Electronic
Music scene since the late seventies and have known each other since
they both appeared at the very first UK Electronica festival in 1983.
They've both enjoyed considerable success in releasing a succession of
solo albums. However it wasn't until 1998 that they first collaborated
under the ARC banner for their first CD release, "Octane". "Fracture"
is ARC's fifth album release and it features their fabled retro style
sequencing, courtesy of Shreeve's giant Moog modular system, coupled
with a heady mix of quirky melodic lines and spacy atmospheres.
The album is wholly instrumental and the first four tracks constantly
morph and evolve with a set of chilled out grooves and sublime melodic themes.
The fifth track, "Rapture", is an epic in every sense. Nearly 23
minutes in length it features a central, pounding sequencer riff
section cocooned within truly awe inspiring deep space ambiences for a
truly memorable track.

22399 ERIK WØLLO & MICHAEL STEARNS - Convergence

What a great album my friends! A musical rendezvous with Erik Wollo
and Michael Stearns just can't be refused. We are dealing here with
two veterans of the EM scene in these ambient forms closest to our
roots, as far from our desire for introspection. Leave that to others!
The others are them. Both are solitary spirits. One is sedentary who
likes to travel, the other is a nomad who drags his Siberian lyricism
in his backpack. Two magnificent musicians who are responsible for
dozens of albums that touched us, that moved us from all over the
world. Ambient panoramas created from the stars, like form the oceans
where a Norwegian guitarist deposits the icy sighs and tears of his
steel guitar, CONVERGENCE is the meeting of two artists whose opposing
styles couldn't hope for such a zenith in order to create an
astonishing unexpected complicity.
The opening of Triptyk plunges us into the Scandinavian ambiences of
Erik Wollo with his guitar tears which spread in a sibylline chorus
which struggles to contain his tears. The movement is slow and we feel
this coldness gradually melts as the shimmering layers of ocean water
sparkle more and more and a bass line and two to three muffled steps
of the sequencer, creating the illusion of keyboard riffs, sculpt the
ambient rhythm of Triptyk. On the harmonic riffs of the guitar,
Michael Stearns has woven a form of sonic lasso that he makes twirl
around this semi-ambient structure, thus creating the illusion of a
rhythm which takes off. And take-off it takes place when a cloud of
enchanted fairies flap their wings to drag the title into an illusory
dance world, while guitar and keyboard forge a musical rainbow that
lights up our ears as much as our soul. A particularly good title
which opens a completely splendid album if the ambient folk or
progressive ambient are your cup of tea. The introduction of Ruins of
the Past reminds me of the taciturn moments of Darshan Ambient. Guitar
note s flow one by one in front of a veil of ambiences woven by the
shimmering synths of Michael Stearns and the tears of the six-string
from our Scandinavian bard. The evolution of the title takes place at
the level of its intensity, like several titles in CONVERGENCE, which
draws its muffled impulses in a radiant sound mass coming from the
textural convergence of the duo Wollo & Stearns. The Way Ahead I
offers an ambient Folk-Gypsy texture. Although catchy, the rhythm
waltzes with rudimentary orchestrations including a violin and its
staccato which tears these ambiences subdued by the campfires, defying
the guitar and its harmonic riffs. The more the ambiences come alive
and the more its staccatos ignite, but everything remains in the
forbidden gaiety of the gypsies. There is an intense wrapping horror
movie vibes in the texture of A Solitary Place which is an ambient
title heavy of its prismatic ambiences. The synth pads oxygenate the
ambiences with iodine vapors. Everything is in sus p ension, like
these sibylline voices which float in ocher radiance. An acoustic
rhythm makes us nod our heads; our ears amazed by these percussions
imitating the walk of a horse on stone in a texture which amplifies
its stranglehold on our attention. There are great arrangements here,
like these orchestral layers which rise and engulf us in an obscure
tunnel where no one will find us.
A title like Erik Wollo offers often, The Nomad's Journey is inspired
by The Way Ahead I, but in a more rock vision when the elements are
unleashed. Guitar tears and synth pads engage in a furious fight whose
only winner is the enrichment of ambiences. The acoustic six-string of
EW traces splendid provisional ballads on this intense track, as if
the wrath of the heavens were still at their tips of chords. And it is
precisely in the rain that Somewhere in the Distance counterbalances
by offering a stylized ambient texture à la Michael Stearns. The
terrestrial elements weep under oblong flexible rever berating rods
where astral luminous filaments cling. Everything is delicate here,
like this flute mutating into a voice and its opposite when it's not
the two visions crying under the heat of the reverberating drones.
This is Pacific School at its best! The Way Ahead II recovers all the
musical warmth that radiated in the troubled waters of its first part
to sculpt one of the most beautiful moments of this album. Multilayers
of guitars that add up in a voluptuous linear crescendo, the music is
the spirit of a stroll among the nymphs and elven landscapes whose
horizons forge the radiant echo of this ambient melody, slightly
tinged with a sibylline paradox. A paradox just to throw in the sketch
of an intriguing avenue that begins around the 4th minute to lead us
into an intense final. Subterranean Canyon is a nice ambient title
with a series of riffs and their echoes which resonate on the pulse of
bass pulsations. This rhythm in non-rhythm becomes a kind of Gaelic
procession which is covered of mysteries in a splendid duel between
these ethereal gothic murmurs and the slow orchestrations which
release a slight earthquake in staccato. Subterranean Canyon goes
through two phases of intensity in this astral journey which is one of
the jewels of this album. After an introduction of shimmering effects,
The Herald falls for good ambient tribal folk with many textures of
manual percussions. A bit like in The Way Ahead I, we perceive a
bohemian essence in an intense passage that the effects and the big
synth of Michael Stearns bring back the music to the well of its
ambiences. Four minutes of seraphic ambiences for an astral explosion
of 2 minutes of this quality, I take! Two great artists like Erik
Wollo and Michael Stearns couldn't leave us without leaving a calling
card in our hearts. This card is Cirrus (Postlude)! Its static
maelstrom finds a gentle slope to release its prisms and colors from
the ocean floors unique to the one who gave us M'Oceans. Observer,
Erik W ollo makes his notes which flow in these ethereal waters drag
until he finds the right tone in order to sculpt a last melody which
lies, plucked in these strings of loneliness, until it dies in my
ears. A splendid album, period!

gr-290 Ellis, Paul - Rainforest And Pavement

A bass pulsation seems to play with the effect of its weak echo at the
opening of Rainforest and Pavement. Clinkings, like crystal-shaped
drops of water, sparkle and their drops evaporate in chords of a
guitar finely linked to the layers of mist which adorn the
introductory landscape of RAINFOREST AND PAVEMENT. Pensive and dreamy,
Paul Ellis is on his last album which has just been released on the
Dutch label Groove nl. It's in a context of constant agonising
indecision between the comfort, the energy of the cities and the hikes
in the tropical forests that Paul Ellis wove the main lines of his
album. There is therefore a strange ambience where his intimate vision
gets lost in the vastness of these forests located on the North West
Coast of the United States, place of residence of the musician from
Washington state. A textural album where sounds turned in grains which
become walls of tranquility or canvases of a neurotic vision,
RAINFOREST A N D PAVEMENT jumps from one extreme to the other in an
album designed to be tamed over a few, if not several, listenings. The
ambient textures dominate as much as this need to relax far from the
cities, while this demon of the cities surprises with torrents of
sounds and of static rhythms that it would take a third ear to listen
to the 11 verses and the 78 minutes of an album dominated by the
desire to create...
Northwest Cedar Coliseum is a good Berlin School that gives us
confidence after the sweet and serene title-track. Under a carpet of
mist rises a waddling movement which flutters in an ascending form.
Another series of arpeggios activates behind the main rhythm
structure, pushing this rhythm towards a noisy phase where momentary
percussive effects are grafted. Go up and down, rhythm and rest,
Northwest Cedar Coliseum is more in the Pacific School genre, I'm
thinking among others of Alpha Wave Movement here, with its structure
embellished by sonic pyrotechnic effects. A grea t title! The ambient
rhythms here are mainly driven by a bass line and its elastic arches
which radiate like Patrick O'Hearn's good bass. Its movement is more
often sneaky, like a wolf playing with its prey. It's also at the
heart of Eyes in the Dark where acoustics dominate electronics with a
good guitar which covers a fairly psychedelic presence of the synths,
except for this fascinating fluty melody. The acoustic riffs spill a
bit of gall which gives a strange texture to the rather quirky
atmospheres of Eyes in the Dark. Resolutely more in ambient music mode
than driven by sequencer, the adventure in the country of Paul Ellis
continues with its long canvas of reverberations and synthesizer tones
of vintage years in Liquid Sorcery. This longer title of RAINFOREST
AND PAVEMENT is like abstract sound art with synthesized doodles that
twist like newborns of reverberant materials. Here too we hear these
layers of mist from the Baumann years trying to create a mold to
collect these el o ngated twisted shapes which float in a liquid of
witchcraft. Each Paul Ellis album brings a title that gets us out of
our ears! Rose Gold, Bronze and Copper is this title and offers quite
a whole big progressive and psychedelic electronic rock. On a totally
wild rhythmic structure, it looks like dozens of steps running in all
directions, forged around oscillating loops of all colors and
dimensions, are flowing rough riffs and are running joggers playing
flutes. There is a fabric of percussions programmed here which add to
this fleeting madness of a title which has a little baby in Specter of
the Ancient City of Ur. The synths howl and everything turns in
inexhaustible loops in this title which could have been born from 'a
merger between Gryphon and Synergy.
After this title hard for the ears and inexplicable for the
imagination, Paul Ellis returns with another creative and progressive
Berlin School in Snow Flurry in Lamp Post Glow. If the opening
breathes the freedom of Tomita i n Snowflakes are Dancing, what
breathes behind this sound image is still conceived in the
psychotronic style with reverberations of all kinds. On the other
hand, the sequencer ignores this hallucinogenic aestheticism by
sculpting this Berlin School which goes up and down until no more
sounds can't come from it in a race against the neurosis of a city in
full drift. Another great title that requires more than one listening,
but already the attraction is there to stimulate this desire to
discover an effective Berlin School, even if it's a different.
Drifting Through an Astral Doorway offers a slow rhythm with a
sequencer releasing a line of bass sequences which advance furtively
and gropingly in a glaucous universe reminiscent of the dark corridors
of Tangerine Dream in the 70's that Mister Ellis faithfully restores
on his guitar. After a breath of mist, Specter of the Ancient City of
Ur extends its texture with a line of lively oscillations rolling
randomly until it's grafted into a heavy stationary movement fed by
loops of oscillations in a universe where is pearling water from
everywhere. There are still a lot of Rose Gold, Bronze and Copper
essences here. Crystal drops also fall and tinkle in the mysterious
setting of Conversations for Neon Cello and Haunted Orchestra. The
atmospheres stick to the unreal vision of the title with resonant
moans and sinuous reverberation lines that wind their way through a
semi-organic area. The hopping rhythm structure of The Way that Autumn
Came to the Trees respects the ambient rhythm parameters of RAINFOREST
AND PAVEMENT. Always sneaky, it hobbles in a vintage EM universe with
its metallic residue mist that surrounds the bits of solos from a
guitar and a synth filled with blues accompanied by a bass with
elastic chords. Misty Light of a Forest at Dawn ends this album in an
enchanting setting. The lines of reverberating moans fill an
introduction where clarity tries to update in a sibylline union with
darkness. A drama is p layed out here with mini luminous spirals which
undulate here and there, invited by fluty airs and good orchestrations
which plunges us into the edge of a forest that only the brightness
can restore its greenery of yesteryear. The movements of the synth
weave undulating lines and layers which mate in music until
penetrating this timeless spiral which sounds so much like Michael
Stearns' Chronos, to a lesser extent, where we finally grasp the
essentials of Misty Light of a Forest at Dawn and of RAINFOREST AND
PAVEMENT. An album like no other, but a great Paul Ellis.

SHIPPING:
Due to the fact that we use a special shipping service that provides
the shipping of parcels etc we don't have to adjust the shipping prices
at this moment. One of the reasons is that because of you our costumers
we can keep these prices so low. With over 1500 parcels shipped last year
we can stay in the lowest shipping prices!
I am glad we are one of the few suppliers of EM that did not have to raise
their shipping prices. So for the 4rth year in a row they stay the same!!
